Abandoned McLaughlin Gormley King Buildings
[September and October, 2003] - Near U of M campus
Members: Frozen (me), Skivvy, Astro
Some History:
The McLaughlin Gormley King Company was founded in 1902 by Alexander
McLaughlin. Originally its main business consisted of grinding
cinnamon and pepper, plant leaves, barks, fruits, and flowers used in
pharmaceuticals. In 1908 the company was incorporated with
partners George A.N. King and John Gormley. Their most recent work
is in developing more efficient, Environmentally friendly pesticides.
Two of the MGK buildings, located near the University of Minnesota,
were abandoned sometime late in 1999 (judging by the papers and things
we found
left there).
Building 1:

Four stories tall (plus basement) and contains
mostly labs with balances and other chemistry equipment. There are
several offices on the first level and some others spread throughout the
building.
Building 2:

Three stories tall, no basement, and very industrial. Many
large machines and tanks.
As of November 4, 2003 only one of the two buildings remain
standing :-(
