[October, 2003] - Building 2

A full month later and I was ready to tackle the second building.
Skivvy joined us once again and so did Astro (this was his first
introduction into UE). This time we had to jump that nasty 9 foot
fence again but it was under the cover of darkness so it would be
trivial not to be seen, right? Wrong. A softball game or two
was going on that night at the field behind the building and people
would trickle past the building every minute or so, coming directly past
us within about 50 feet. Careful timing would be necessary to
avoid detection. We scaled the fence one at a time. Skivvy
went over first to try to open a door for us so Astro and I could bypass
the fence altogether. Unfortunately the door was very stuck.
A few minutes later I scaled the fence and joined Skivvy on the back
side of the building, out of sight of the main walkway. Astro
remained stuck outside, hiding behind a 30 foot pile of dirt as people
walked by every minute or so. Skivvy and I were motioning
frantically at Astro to quick scale the fence but he was nervous about
being seen. Finally he got over safely and out of sight.
Whew. We made it in. Time to explore!
This building was
absolutely beautiful. Everything was machinery. As
industrial an environment as one can get. Below is a brief tour of
the place. It really is a shame it got torn down.

(Frozen [me] in my traditional chair photo)

(Every single tank we found had a gaping hole in it)

(A street light from the nearby parking lot shines through the window)

(Some nasty stuff in a bucket. Did I mention this
whole place smelled really strongly of pesticides?)

(Stairway to level 2)

(The parking lot - I really like this picture)

(This one was big enough to climb into)

(Mmmmm...Dicyclopentadiene...)

(Building 1 as seen from the 2nd level)

(This tank was so large it had a ladder to climb into it!
Also, notice the nifty mixer on the bottom. Nifty, isn't it?)

(The elevator room)

(Roof shot)

(As you can see, there were still quite a few people around)

(Giant tank!)

(Now I'm outside the building and up on a rickety
catwalk near the tank in the previous picture)

(Building 2 as seen from the catwalk)

(This place was very contaminated with pesticides.
Above is a cleanup truck old pesticides were pumped into)
We
exited the area much the same way we entered. I went first, then
Skivvy, then Astro. We were seen a little but it didn't matter -
we were already out. And stinking of pesticides. Time for a
shower.
